Infanta
This stretch of road along Marilaque Highway is just a two-hour drive from Manila and features some of the best species Luzon has to offer. The hides in the area mean that you're guaranteed some great birds, while the roadside forest and trails always leave room for surprises!
Star Birds: Rufous Hornbill, Spotted Kingfisher, Philippine Dwarf-Kingfisher, Bicol Ground-Warbler, Cream-breasted Fruit-Dove, Yellow-breasted Fruit-Dove, Flame-breasted Fruit-Dove, Luzon Scops-Owl

Subic
Formerly a US naval base, Subic hosts one of the last remaining lowland forests on Luzon. The relatively easy birding (for the Philippines at least) and paved road make the 2.5-hour drive to this site more than worth it.
Star Birds: Green Racket-tail, Northern Sooty-Woodpecker, Luzon Flameback, Blackish Cuckooshrike, Rufous Coucal, Rough-crested Malkoha, Scale-feathered Malkoha, Blue-naped Parrot

LMEP + NAPWC
Only have a morning for some takas (escape) birding? La Mesa Ecopark (LMEP) and Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center (NAPWC) in Quezon City are relatively close to each other and have some top-tier endemic species. Given the small size of the parks and relative ease of birding, you can possibly get all the targets before lunch!
Star Birds: Philippine Eagle-Owl (NAPWC), Ashy Thrush (LMEP), Spotted Kingfisher (LMEP), Stripe-sided Rhabdornis (LMEP), Luzon Hornbill (LMEP), Black-chinned Fruit-Dove

Baggao
Baggao in Cagayan Province is the last stronghold of the critically endangered Isabela Oriole. Aside from the oriole, Baggao hosts a number of hard-to-find Luzon endemics. This site is one flight away from Manila.
Star Birds: Isabela Oriole, White-lored Oriole, Sierra Madre Ground-Warbler, Rufous Hornbill, Cream-breasted Fruit-Dove (distinct subspecies), Rough- crested Malkoha (distinct subspecies), Furtive Flycatcher, Luzon Striped-Babbler

Mt. Polis
This highland site is one of the best places to get the montane Philippine endemics. The 8-hour drive to get there makes this a bit more "hardcore," but you also get the beautiful Banaue Rice Terraces and much cooler birding weather.
Star Birds: Flame-breasted Fruit-Dove, Sunda Thrush, Yellow-crowned Flowerpecker, Luzon Racket-tail, Philippine Bush-Warbler, Long-tailed Bush-Warbler, Bundok Flycatcher, Turquoise Flycatcher
