Tablas, Romblon

Tablas is home to three endemic species (Tablas Drongo, Tablas Fantail, Romblon Boobook) and a future possible split subspecies (Tablas Streak-breasted Bulbul). Philippine birders often go to Tablas only after they’ve seen most of the “easy” endemics in the country. A major reason for this is the crazy commute it takes to get to the island. Since the termination of the flight route between Manila and Tablas, the only way to get there is via ferry. Getting to the port itself is already a 2-hour ordeal, and the ferry itself takes 10 hours. While the Tablas Drongo is beautiful, the half-day trip dissuades many potential visitors.
